\ 7. The times-series plots presented in Appendix C are difficult to review
quickly due to the use of different vertical (concentration) scales on
the plots. The TCE data, for example, is plotted 108 times using 43
different vertical scales. The vertical scales used range from zero to
0.1 to zero to 600 ug/1. None of the different scales is used more than
seven times. In all future monitoring reports, please plot as many of
the time series graphs as possible using the same vertical scale. Each
of the plots should still be readable to the point where trends in the
data can be seen. For TCE, this will likely require plotting data on
scales of 0 to 1, 0 to 10, 0 to 100, and 0 to 1,000 ug/l. All of the
plots that have the same vertical scale should be grouped together.
SPECIFIC COMENTS
1. Section 1.1.4, Page 1-1 and Section 6.5.1, Page 6-4: The Report (Page 1-
1) states that no wells were abandoned during this period at DDJC-Tracy.
However, on Page 6-4, the Report discusses abandonment of one monitoring
well and one extraction well in June 1999. For consistency, please
revise the Report to resolve this discrepancy.
2. Table 2.5-1: Table 2.5-1 (Page 2-10) shows that injection wells IW001
through IWO04B are scheduled to be abandoned in 12/99. However, it is
unclear why the injection wells were scheduled to be abandoned. For
clarity, please revise the table to indicate why the injection wells
were scheduled to be abandoned (i.e. , why were they permanently taken
out of service in 1997?) .
3. Section 3.2.2, Page 3-1: The Report states that "Table 3.2-2 provides an
evaluation of selected wells with statistically significant
concentration trends. . ." However, the Report does not indicate how the
wells shown in Table 3.2-2 were selected and where the results for the
remaining wells are presented. For clarity, please revise the Report to
indicate how the wells for presentation in Table 3.2-2 were selected and
include a reference to where the results of the remaining wells are
presented.
4 . Section 5.2.4, Page 5-1 and Figure 5.3-7: The Report states that
"EW035AU, EW036AU, and EW037AU were installed to provide groundwater to
treatment plant #1 but are not in operation." However, TCE concentration
data are presented for EW037AU for 2Q99 and 3Q99 on Figure 5.3-7. For
consistency, please revise the Report to clarify this discrepancy.
5. Section 5.3.1.1, Page 5-2 and Figure 5.3-7: The Report states that "Both
groundwater treatment systems were in operation throughout the fourth
quarter of 1998 and the first three quarters of 1999". However, the data
presented on Figure 5.3-7 indicates that none of the wells that are part
3
