of treatment plant #2 were operating during the fourth quarter 1998. For
clarity, please revise the Report to resolve this discrepancy.
6. Section 5.9.i.2, Pave 5 2. Section 5.3.3.6, Page 5-3: The Report states that "DDJC-Tracy should
consider shutting down EW003, EW004AU, and EW008A since the water pumped
from these wells is diluting the water entering the stripper tower. . . It
should be noted that dieldrin was detected in EW003 and EW004AU;
however, carbon units are not installed at these wellheads to treat
dieldrin." Appendix E shows that dieldrin has been detected at 0.107
ug/1, 0.100 ug/l, and 0.0985 ug/1 (ACL is 0.05 ug/1) at EW003 and at
less than the method reporting limit and at 0.0695 ug/l at EW004AU.
Since dieldrin continues to be detected above the ACL at EW003 and in
the last sampling round at EW004AU, groundwater contaminated with
dieldrin requires further treatment. Please revise the Report to address
how dieldrin in groundwater at these wells will be treated should EW003
and EW004AU be shut down. One possible solution is to install carbon
units at the wellheads to treat dieldrin and to route the treated water
such that it bypasses the stripper tower to join the effluent from the
stripper tower before discharge to the infiltration gallery or the
chimney drain.
8. Table 5.3-2: The table shows that EW009B had a flow rate of 0 gallons
per minute (gpm) and that EWO10AU had a flow rate of 22 gpm. However,
Figure 5.3-7 shows influent concentration data for EW009B for 4Q98 and
2Q99. In addition, the figure does not show data for EWO10AU. It appears
that the data for these two wells were switched. For clarity, please
revise the Report to resolve this discrepancy.
9. Table 5.3-2: The table does not show data for EW040AU through EW044AU,
although these wells are shown on Figure 5.3-7. For clarity, please
revise the Report to resolve this discrepancy.
4
