16 October 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-01.65
f Page 4 of 6
t..
During drilling, auger returns were monitored for the presence of organic, vapor using a.-photo-
ionizing detector(PID: Thermo Environmental 580A, 10.0eV calibrated using isobutylene).
tow 3.4, SOIL PROFILE
Soil was extruded from the second brass sleeve and screened for the presence of organic vapor using
6. a PID and the readings were recorded on'the boring logs. The soil was-then described in accordance
with the Unified Soil Classification System. The boring logs are included in Appendix D.
Y -
"' Silty fine sand and silty clay were.encountered in borings below the former UST. Silty clay and silt
were encountered at forty to fifty-feet bsg, in boring B2. Ground water was not encountered during
the investigation at the site. Figure_ 3 - Cross Section depicts the subsurface soil and the areas of
too
estimated hydrocarbon-impact.
3.5. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
A total of seven soil samples were submitted to MAI for analysis. Samples analyzed included
samples collected from the greatest depth reached in each of the borings. TPH-g was not detected
in any of the samples analyzed. BTE&X was only detected in the samples analyzed from boring B-2:
4r Low concentrations of BTE&X were detected at depths from 35 feet to 55,feet bsg. Benzene was
detected at 0.009 ppm in soil sample 132-35 . MTBE was detected in sample 82-45 at 0.39 ppm,
however,MTBE was not present in the sample analyzed below 132-45, soil sample 132-55.Analytical
results of the soil samples are summarized.in Table 4.,The laboratory report(McCampbell Analytical
Lab ID 64924 to 64930) and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix E.
6w
3.6. GROUND WATER SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS; .
v
To determine whether or not ground water in the vicinity of the former UST was impacted by the
unauthorized petroleum hydrocarbon release; grab ground water samples were collected from-the
6w domestic water-well on-site. The well is located approximately.60 feet south of the former UST area.
On 07 February and 18 June 1996, a-water sample was collected by representatives of AGE in EPA
6w approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing hydrochloric acid as a preservative. The ground water
samples were transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical Inc. (MAI)in Pacheco,
California.Each sample was analyzed for TPH-g,and BTE&X with methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE),
in accordance with EPA methods 8015 and 602, respectively.
6..
