Selected soil samples will be analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with the <br /> appropriate EPA methods. Also selected soil samples will be analyzed for permeability, <br /> moisture content and porosity in accordance with the appropriate ASTM-and EPA methods. <br /> 11. Backfill each probing using a concrete slurry in the entire depth. <br /> 12. Cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized in properly <br /> labeled D.O.T. model 17H 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area inaccessible to the <br /> general public. <br /> 4.2. INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS <br /> If hydrocarbon-impacted ground water is encountered during the investigation, the PHS-EHD will <br /> require the installation of at least three ground water monitoring wells. The following procedures will <br /> be performed for the installation of monitoring wells: <br /> 1. Notify the PHS-EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper <br /> city/county soil boring permits. <br /> 2. Boring locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service <br /> Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes. <br /> 1 Advance three soil borings, using a truck-mounted drill rig, and 8.25-inch diameter hollow <br /> stem augers. The borings will be advanced to a depth approximately 10 feet below were <br /> ground water is first encountered. Water in the auger stem will then be accurately measured <br /> using a Solinst water meter. Boring locations will be approved by the PHS-EHD prior to <br /> drilling. <br /> 4. Decontaminate all sampling equipment in an alconox solution and rinse twice with water prior <br /> to each sampling run. Steam-clean auger flights before advancement of each boring. <br /> 5. Sample each boring,beginning at 5 feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon sampler and pre- <br /> cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves. <br /> 6. Preserve soil in the brass sleeve by covering both ends with aluminum foil or teflon tape, <br /> capping, and sealing with tape. <br /> 7. Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled ice chest to a State certified <br /> laboratories for analysis. <br /> 8. Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization <br /> detector(PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene. <br /> 9. Log borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. <br />
