Newark Sierra
Page 2
Further investigation in this area is required. A work plan to delineate the
lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbons in this area
should be submitted to PHS/EHD by December 1, 1997. Continuous core
drilling or probing should be used so that soil samples can be obtained from
discrete intervals. In January 1997 the depth to water in monitoring wells at the
site was-8 to 9 feet below grade. Therefore, the investigation should include
obtaining ground water samples from borings for analysis. The collection of soil
samples beneath ground water will be required since the soil samples beneath
the sump and UST's were collected at 8 feet and 12 feet below grade, so it is
known that the soil contamination now extends below ground water and the soil
contamination must be defined vertically.
Enclosed is an application for the State Water Resources Control Board Cleanup
Fund. PHS/EHD recommends you apply to the Cleanup Fund for
reimbursement of your corrective action costs.
If you have any questions or need assistance in completing the Cleanup Fund
application contact me at (209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Environmental Health Division
Enclosure
c: CVRWQCB - Pat Anderson
