December 22, 1998
41017 002 Harding Lawson Associates
Mr Michael Kith
' PHSIEHD
Page 11
' • Soluble analyses indicate that these soils do not contain detectable concentrations of soluble TPHd
or TPHmo, and therefore do not pose a potential threat to groundwater quality
' . The excavation was appropriately backfilled and compacted
Quarterly monitoring of the four wells around the UST was performed on July 28, 1998 and on October 14,
1998, approximately 3 months following the UST removal The analytical results indicated that for both
' sampling events none of the analytes were detected above their respective reporting linuts (copies of the
analytical reports are attached) This data further supports the soluble data, in that, the remaining impacted
soils do not threaten groundwater quality beneath the Site
' Based on the analytical results and the observatLons made in the field, and the quarterly monitonng results,
HLA concludes that the soils remaining in place adjacent to the former UST sidewall do not pose a threat to
' groundwater quality and do not require any additional sampling or investigation
Based on the information and conclusions presented in this report and summarized above, HLA recommends
that the four monitonng wells be properly destroyed and that UST be considered appropriately closed and a no-
further-action-required letter be issued by the PHS/EHD to Newark-Sierra
LIMITATIONS
The activities were conducted in accordance with practices and procedures generally accepted in the consulting
engineering field Information presented in this report does not confirm the presence or absence of suspect
materials at the property, but indicates whether the possibility of such materials exists based on the scope of
work performed Our professional opinions expressed herein are based on limited data, no other warranty is
' given or implied by this report This report is complete and accurate to the extent that cited reports and agency
information are complete and accurate
1
10
r
•
