i
I
Geosyntec O
consultants
5. WORK PLAN FOR CPT-13 AREA INVESTIGATION
The objective of the CPT-13 area investigation is to delineate, laterally and vertically,
the extent of toluene in soil and groundwater.
5.1 Scope of Work
The investigation of the CPT-13 area will' consist of soil and groundwater sampling
with an adaptive approach. Proposed initial .locations, shown in Figure 3, are
approximately 10 feet from CPT-13 .in all directions. Soil samples will be collected at
various depths between 15 and 40 ft bgs and analyzed onsite by a mobile laboratory.
Deeper samples will be collected if necessary.to delineate the vertical extent of toluene
impact. Step-out borings will be completed as needed to delineate the lateral extent of
toluene in soil. Potential step-out locations are shown in Figure 3 but are subject to
change based on field conditions.
5.2 Pre-Investigation Activities
Prior to the start of field activities, Geosyntec will perform the following:
• Update the Site Health and Safety Plan (HASP), as needed, in accordance with
local, state, and federal requirements;
• Obtain boring permits from. the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department;
• Notify Underground Service Alert a minimum of two business days prior to the
commencement of any subsurface work and conduct a utility clearance using a
private utility locator to identify subsurface utilities and other potential
obstructions.. Proposed investigation locations will be adjusted based upon the
USA and private utility clearance.
5.3 Investigation Activities
Soil borings will be advanced by a licensed California C-57 drilling contractor.
Geosyntec personnel will provide oversight of the drilling operations and will log soil
cores according to the UnifiedSoil Classification System (USCS). Soil samples will be
collected at various depths between 15 and 40 ft bgs. The samples will be analyzed for
VOCs by a California Department of Health Services certified mobile analytical
laboratory using EPA Method 8260. Soil cuttings will be contained in 55-gallon drums
pending analysis and disposal.
Monitoring Well Installation Report 8 21 January 2013
