(MACTEC)is.pleased to present this Work Plan to perform
offsite investigation'at 800 West Church Street in Stockton,California on behalf of The Newark.Group
(the site owners). This Workplan is intended to fulfill the requirements of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department(the County)for obtaining the pertinent drilling permit. The Scope of
work presented in this Work Plan includes the following:
• Offsite investigation north of site boundary to assess if toluene contamination previously detected in
the northwestern corner of the Site has migrated offsite.
• Preparation of a report presenting the results of the offsite assessment.
MACTEC previously conducted investigation activities at the Site in December 2005 to assess three areas
of concern(AOCs; northwest, southwest and southeast corners of site)identified during a Phase II
assessment performed at the Site in August 2005 for a prospective buyer of the Site.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Field Investigation
Prior to initiating the field work, MACTEC will obtain the required boring permits from the County and
will clear proposed boring locations using surface geophysical techniques to reduce the possibility of
encountering or damaging buried subsurface utilities such as piping or electrical wiring. Because the
proposed borehole locations will be on West Church Street,we have also obtained a City of Stockton
Department of Public Works(DPW)encroachment permit which is attached for your files.
Based on the results of the previous investigation, MACTEC will be installing four offsite borings. Air
knife will be utilized in the top 5-feet of each boring to avoid encountering undocumented subsurface
anomalies.
Each boring location will be continuously cored and logged by a MACTEC field geologist using visual
and manual methods. Soil samples will be screened using a photo-ionization detector(PID)to identify
any samples potentially containing elevated levels of residual petroleum hydrocarbons.
