August 22,2008
4088087538 01
Mr. Jeff Wong
San Joaquin County
Page 2
prepare select soil samples for laboratory analysis based on PID measurements and physical
characteristics identified by the field geologist. Two soil samples per boring location will be prepared
and analyzed: one from just above first encountered groundwater,and one sample with the highest
recorded PID reading. If all PID measurements are non-detect at a boring location, only the soil sample
collected from just above first encountered groundwater will be prepared for analysis. Soil samples will
be prepared by capping the tube ends with Teflon tape and plastic caps, labeling the samples with unique
sample numbers, and placing the samples into a cooler with ice packs and the appropriate chain of
custody(COC)documentation.
Upon reaching the target depth in'each boring for which a groundwater sample is to be,collected, ;
(estimated as 20 to 25 feet bgs);the drive rod will be-withdrawn approximately 3 feet.to allow water to: •.
infiltrate the borehole,the disposable tip will be removed from the drive rod;and a,temporary polyvinyl
chloride(PVC)well casing will be installed. A grab groundwater sample will be collected using a
disposable Teflon,bailer or stainless steel bailer. The water will be decanted into the;appropriate sample
containers,which will be provided.by.the analytical laboratory. The sealed sample containers will be
labeledwith unique sample numbers and placed into,a cooler with ice packs with the-app ropriate COC.
documentation. Samples will be analysed foutotal petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)!as'gasoline(g)and;
diesel(d)using EPA Test Method 8015M,and for benzene toluene, ethylbenzene,and total xylenes
(BTEX)using EPA Test Method 8020M on a standard two-week turnaround basis. One composite soil
sample will also be analyzed for leaking underground fuel tank(LUFT)metals for waste pro i mg
purposes. q.
Report
Following completion of the field work and receipt and review of the sample analytical results,MACTEC
will prepare a written letter report that summarizes our field observations and sampling procedures and
the results of the chemical analyses. Our conclusionsand recommendations for additional work,if
warranted,will also be included in this report.
