`, "lot
27 October 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0235
Page 7 of 11
decay study.
The laboratory report of findings, with analytical data is attached in Appendix A.
2.0. SCOPE OF WORK
AGE proposes an ozone injection well pilot study for the upper hydrogeologic units at the area of
the highest concentrations of dissolved hydrocarbons, near the former northern cluster UST area.
This work plan is prepared in accordance with Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board d'"
(CVRWQCB) guidelines for the investigation of underground storage tanks (UST) sites.
Based on the results of the ozone bench scale test, the use of ozone (air) injection will desorb
hydrocarbons adhered to soil into ground water, destroy the dissolved contamination,with limited
impact to the water quality objectives. The scope of work will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting, planning and pre-field work activities;
• Drilling and installation of ozone injection wells;
• Performance of an 24-week ozone sparge pilot test, including monthly monitoring; and
• Preparation of a report on the results of well installation activities and the in-situ ozone
sparge feasibility study.
Based upon results from several air-sparging and ozone-injection projects in the San Joaquin County
area, it has been AGE's experience that iron (metal) fouling of sparge points has been not
detrimental to the site remediation;while two of the projects are in the city of Stockton and near the
site with similar hydrogeologic setting (including Fire Station No. 2) have demonstrated overall
successful results.
The bench scale test indicated a reduction of soil contamination over a short period of time, a
liberation of adsorbed hydrocarbons into the dissolved phase, with minimal side effects or the ozone
would produce additional water quality degradation. During the installation of the proposed ozone
sparge points,AGE will collect soil and,if necessary,ground water samples from the pilot borings.
These samples will be submitted to a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified
laboratory to analyze for their general mineral content.
N%.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
