After the tanks were removed, the areas of the former tanks were backfilled. <br /> On November 14, 1997, a geologist from ATC Associates supervised the advancement of two <br /> soil borings to 30 feet below ground surface(bgs). Analytical results of soil samples indicated the <br /> presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. One groundwater sample was collected from each boring at <br /> the depth groundwater was first encountered, approximately 30 feet bgs. Groundwater samples <br /> indicated the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. Results are summarized in ATC's Summary <br /> Report of Subsurface Investigation, dated January 14, 1998. <br /> On July 13, 1998, a geologist from ATC Associates supervised the advancement of four soil <br /> borings to 26 to 31 feet below ground surface (bgs). Analytical results of soil samples indicated <br /> the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. One groundwater sample was collected from each <br /> boring at the depth groundwater was first encountered. Groundwater samples indicated the <br /> presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. Results are summarized in ATC's Summary Report of <br /> Additional Subsurface Investigation, dated September 9, 1998. <br /> SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Planning and Permits <br /> ATC has completed the well installation permit application for the proposed subsurface <br /> investigation. The permit application and associated fees (check no. 179) are attached to this <br /> workplan. ATC will also schedule field personnel and equipment, notify Underground Service <br /> Alert to locate underground utilities as required, and perform any other necessary field <br /> preparation and job start-up activities. <br /> Installation of Soil Borinzs and Monitoring Wells <br /> The soil borings will be advanced using a hollow stem auger equipped drill rig to depths of <br /> approximately 40 feet bgs. Drilling will be conducted by a State licensed (C57) drilling company. <br /> One soil boring will be advanced using continuous core methodologies to collect undisturbed soil <br /> samples and obtain more exact lithological data. The soil samples from the remaining two soil <br /> borings will be collected at five foot intervals or significant changes in lithology. A field geologist <br /> will be present to log all drill cuttings and soil samples. Each soil sample will be field screened <br /> with a Photoionization Detection (PID) meter or similar instrument and at least two samples from <br /> each of the three borings, based on field observations (i.e. odor, discoloration, PID readings), will <br /> be placed in a cooler with ice and submitted for laboratory analysis. <br /> Placement of Barings and Wells <br /> To evaluate the extent of soil and groundwater contamination in the area of the former USTs, <br /> three soil borings will be advanced to approximately 40 feet below ground surface (bgs).
