PROCEDURES
3 1 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
' On 17 November 1997, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water
in each well relative to the tops of the well casings The ground water elevations and gradient were
determined from these data (Table 4)
After recording water level measurements, a two-stage submersible pump was used to purge each
10 monitoring well of standing water A minimum of three well volumes of water were removed from
each well Ground water temperature,pH and conductivity were measured at regular intervals during
purging using an ICM water analyzer Stabilization data and field sheets are included in Appendix
' A Purged water was stored on-site in labeled, 55-gallon DOT-approved drums
3 2 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each well using a new disposable plastic bailer Each water
' sample was transferred into 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml of 18% hydrochloric acid as a
sample preservative and into 1-liter amber bottles without preservative After collection, the samples
were properly labeled, placed in a chilled, container and transported under chain-of-custody to
McCampbell Analytical, Inc'(MAI) in Pacheco Each sample was analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH-g),diesel (TPH-d)and motor oil (TPI-I,-mo) in accordance
' with EPA Methods 5030/8015m,for volatile aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes,
BTE&X) with methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 602 and for
volatile organic compounds with oxygenated compounds in accordance with EPA Method
8260/8260m
3 3 CASING ELEVATION SURVEY
Prior to ground water monitoring performed on 27 May 1997, the casing for MW-2 was altered
_ Advanced GcoEn,tronmental,Inc
1i
