File No. 20-3769-01 KLEINFELDER
March 16, 1994
this proposal to Public Health Services. The permit must be approved prior to drilling the
bonngs.
Task A2 - Permitting
Kleinfelder will submit the soil and groundwater assessment proposal, a proposed boring location
map, a health and safety plan, the boring permit application, and the appropriate application fees
to the SJCEHD for review and approval. Following obtaining approval from the SJCEHD,
Klelnfelder will commence the actual field assessment.
Task A3 - Drilling of Soil Borings and Monitoring Well Xnstallation
One soil boring will be advanced on the excavation ramp near the northwest corner of the
excavation to a maximum depth of 45 feet below surface grade (bsg) to define the hydrocarbon-
affected soil in that direction. Three additional soil borings will be advanced in locations as
follows:
+ South of the existing excavation near the street
• North of the current excavation near the warehouse and former dispenser location
• East of the current excavation
The "south," "north," and "east" borings will be advanced to a depth of approximately 60 feet
bsg to further define the hydrocarbon-affected soil in those directions and for constructing a 2-
Inch diameter groundwater monitoring well within each boring.
During the advancement of all bonngs, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals for
lithologic classification and qualitative field screening. Lithologic classification will be based on
the United Soil Classification System (USCS) Additionally, soil samples will be obtained for
field screening with an organic vapor analyzer(OVA). The OVA measures ionizable compounds
in air in parts per million by volume (ppmv). Soil samples will also be obtained for potential
chemical analysis. At this time we propose to analyze two soil samples per boring. After
collection, the soil samples will be labeled, logged on an chain-of-custody, and immediately
stored in an iced cooler. The samples will be submitted to APPL Laboratory in Fresno,
California for the following analyses:
• TPH purgeable by EPA Method 8015M/5030 (gasoline range)
• BTEX by EPA Method 8020/602
The samples will be analyzed on a normal laboratory schedule requiring approximately one week
(five working days) for completion.
copyright 1994 KLeinfelder, Inc.
