s
CLEARWATER
G R O U •P, I N .C.
records, the soil sample collected from the bottom of the May 1993 excavation
contained the following detectable hydrocarbons:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) in a concentration of
1000 parts per million (ppm)
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) concentrations of 4.6,
54, 28, and 110 ppm, respectively.
On the basis of information contained in project files, the excavation was
backfilled with approximately 1,012 tons of crushed rock in late May, 1993.
John P. Cummings & Associates sampled soil removed from the excavation
and concluded that it was non-hazardous. The San Joaquin County PHS
granted permission for the soil to be hauled to 1111 North Union Street in
Stockton and aerated.
On September 7 and 8, 1993, approximately .1,080 tons of soil were hauled
from 729 South Commerce Street to 1111 North Union Street. Following
aeration, approximately 1,022 tons of soil were removed from the North
Union Street property and taken to 7735 South Highway 99 in Stockton.
The volume of soil remaining at 1111 North Union Street is 100 cubic yards
(cy) or less, according to estimates made by the PHS.
In early 1995, Clearwater was retained to sample the soil that was moved to
7735 South Highway 99. Analytical results were submitted to the PHS, and
the PHS indicated that the soil could be left in place with no further
treatment.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 Purpose
While preparing this scope of work, Clearwater met with the PHS to review
their records and to establish the technical approach for the following
activities:
• Install and sample three groundwater monitoring wells at 729 South
Commerce Street
• Sample and analyze the remaining soil stockpiled at 1111 North Union
Street (disposal of the soil is not within this scope of work).
D108 WP (rwAsed)1/96 3
