04/17/2008 08 :33 FAX 12093698635 MickeGroveGolf IA 005/009
October 2004 9 033-9649.17
5. POLLUTION REDUCTION
The State of California requires that industrial facilities use Best Management Practices (BMPs)
to control and eliminate sources of storm water pollutants. Table 1 is a summary of the Micke
Grove existing and future BMPs for the identified potential sources of pollution described in
Section 4.
Currently, there are no existing data on the quality of storm water from the Micke Grove facility_
'rhe probable loading of the various potential pollutants cannot be quantified due to the lack of
storm water data.
511 Best Management Practices
The Micke Grove facility is required to implement BMPs to reduce the potential for
contamination of storm water runoff. Identification of non-structural and structural BMPs is
mandatory under the Permit.
5.1.1 Non-Structural BMPs
Non-structural BMPs refer to any process, prohibition, procedure, or schedule of activity that
prevents pollutants associated with industrial activity from contacting storm water. Non-
siruetural BMPs are usually low technology and cost-effective, and should be considered before
implementing structural BMPs (discussed in Section 5.1.2). The following non-structural BMPs
are considered:
• Good Housekeeping - Requires the maintenance of clean, orderly facility areas that
discharge storm water;
• Preventive Maintenance - Inspection and maintenance of storm water conveyance
devices and inspection/testing of plant equipment that could fail and result in discharges
of pollutants to storm water;
• Spill Prevention and Response-Particular attention is to be devoted to minimizing spills;
• Storm Water Management practices -Refers to BMPs that involve construction such as
berming;
• Employee Training - Inform all personnel responsible for implementing the SWPPP and
its BMPs;
• Waste Handling/Recycling — Refers to procedures or processes to handle, store, or
dispose of waste or recyclable materials.
• Record Keeping and Internal Reporting—Requires that all records of inspections, spills,
maintenance activities, corrective actions, visual observations, etc., are developed,
retained, and provided,as necessary to the appropriate facility personnel.
• Erosion Control and Site Stabilization - If applicable, identify measures to reduce
sediment in storm water discharges;
• Inspections -All inspections, visual observations and sampling (Monitoring Program and
Reporting requirements) shall be done by trained personnel, when required;
• Pollution Prevention Personnel - Identify specific individuals (and job titles) who are
responsible for developing, implementing, and revising the SWPPP;
Golder Associates
