NOVA
CONSULTING
technique. Physical evidence of any unusual odors or staining will be recorded on the field
log.
The headspace technique consists of half-filling a quart sized zip-lock bag with a soil
sample and quickly sealing the bag. Headspace development proceeds for between 10 to
20 minutes. The bag is shaken vigorously for 15 seconds,at both the beginning and the end
of the headspace development period. After headspace development, the bag is opened
slightly and the PID probe is inserted to one-half the headspace depth. The highest reading
observed on the PID will be recorded. The PID readings will be on the boring logs.
2.4 Laboratory Chemical Analyses
One soil sample will be submitted for analysis from each of the shallow interior borings.
One soil sample will be submitted for analysis from each of the deeper exterior borings.
One groundwater sample will be obtained from each of the exterior borings.
The soil and groundwater, samples will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis of VOCs.
The samples will be placed into laboratory-supplied containers, stored in a cooler under
refrigerated conditions, and transported to Environmental Science Corporation (ESC) in
Mount Juliet, Tennessee using chain-of-custody procedures. ESC is certified to analyze
environmental samples collected in the State of California.
WORK PLAN PAUL'S CLEANERS AT RALEY'S STOCTON
PAGE 4 NOVA PROJECT NO.B13-0472
