NOVO
CCMUDW3
2.0 METHODS AND PROCEDURES
2.1 Soil Boring Locations
Paul's Cleaners occupies tenant Suite F. Two of the borings (hand auger) will be located
inside of this tenant space. The hand auger borings will be located on the northern end of
the tenant space in the vicinity of the dry cleaning equipment. One exterior boring
(Geoprobe) will be located on the north side of the tenant space. Since the presumed
direction of groundwater flow is to the west, a second exterior boring (Geoprobe) will be
located on the west side of the 2339 West Hammer Lane building. A Proposed Soil Boring
Location Map is attached as Figure 3.
2.2 Soil Boring Installation Procedures
The soil borings will be advanced by Vironex contractors using a truck mounted
Geoprobe® Model 660ODT Hydraulic push probe. A Geoprobe® Macro-Core 5 sampler will
be used to collect the soil samples from the borings at continuous five-feet intervals up to a
depth of thirty (30) feet below grade. The Macro-Core 5 sampler consists of a 2.25-inch
outside diameter, 60-inch long nickel-plated alloy-steel sampling tube that is continuously
filled with soil as it is pushed and/or hammered to the desired sampling depth. The Macro-
Core 5 sampler will be cleaned with alconox soap and a fresh water rinse between
sampling intervals and new disposable sampling liners will be for each sampling interval.
Temporary wells constructed of Teflon tubing with a stainless steel slotted well point, will
be installed in the exterior borings. The groundwater will be pumped from the temporary
well with a peristaltic pump. The water will be placed in a laboratory supplied sample jar.
The interior soil borings will be completed by coring 4 inch holes through the concrete
floor slab in the Paul's Cleaners tenant space. Then a two inch diameter steel hand auger
will be used to complete the borings to a depth of five (5) feet below grade. The hand auger
will be cleaned with alconox soap and a fresh water rinse between samples.
2.3 Field Screening
An environmental geologist will record a physical description of the soils encountered at
each boring location on a field-boring log. Visual classification of soil will be based on
American Society of Testing and Materials methods 2487 and 2488, Soil Conservation
Service, and American/Canadian Stratigraphic standards. The soil sample descriptions
included type, color, grain size, texture, and moisture. The descriptions will be recorded on
soil boring logs.
In addition to recording the physical description of the soils encountered at each boring
location on a field-boring log, the Nova field geologist will screen the soil samples for
indications of environmental impacts. Each of the soil samples retrieved from the
boreholes will be screened for organic vapors using a Phocheck PID. The PID is equipped
with a 10.6 eV lamp and will be calibrated to an isobutylene standard prior to being used at
the Property. The soil samples will be screened utilizing the headspace field analysis
WORK PLAN PAUL'S CLEANERS AT RALEY'S STOCTON
PAGE 3 NOVA PROJECT NO.B13-0472
