0 4
Former Countryside Market,Stockton, California
Feasibility Study and Interim Remedial Action Plan May 20,2013
8.0 CLEANUP CRITERIA
8.1 Soil
As indicated previously, vapor well VW-1 may potentially be utilized or bioventing and/or direct
extraction/above ground treatment. CRWQCB Environmental Screenin Levels (ESLs) will be the
primary criteria utilized to make this determination. Specifically, the following values from Table G of the
updated ESLs (February 2013), which define the maximum allowable leaching concentrations from soil
(above a drinking water resource) for all of the COPCs at the Site, will be compared against the soil
sampling results obtained during feasibility testing and IRAP implementation activities:
➢ 1,2-DCA 4.5 µg/kg,
➢ Benzene 44 µg/kg,
➢ Toluene 2,900 µg/kg,
➢ Ethylbenzene 3,300 pg/kg, and
➢ Xylenes 2,300 µg/kg
Should the results of this comparison clearly indicate the need for soil treatment, a proposed plan for
testing and implementing vadose zone remedial measures will be submitted under separate cover and/or
as part of the feasibility test report/final RAP. If necessary/feasible, the final remediation technology
proposed for the cleanup of residually impacted vadose zone soils will be implemented prior to or
concurrently with the advent of sparging operations.
Since ESLs are considered to be conservative (CRWQCB, November 2007), the presence of a given
chemical in soil above its respective ESL following the implementatioi of any required remedial
measures may result in a more detailed Site-specific environmental issessment to determine if
modifications to the above criteria are warranted/applicable.
8.2 Groundwater
Water quality objectives for 1,2-DCA and BTEX compounds are the MCLs or drinking water. These are
as follows:
➢ 1,2-DCA 0.5 µg/L,
➢ Benzene 1 µg/L,
➢ Toluene 150 µg/L,
➢ Ethylbenzene 300 µg/L, and
➢ Xylenes 1,750µg/L
Feasibility SW y and Feasibility StAy 8l RAP Ted Finaldm 8-1 The Source Group,Inc.
