LL3
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
September 7, 1989
.10
F
Ms. Darlene Reuss
ti
San Joaquin County Local Health District
P. O. Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
RE: Construction Permits for Monitor Wells Adjacent to LLNL Site 300
Dear Ms. Reuss:
As you know, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has recently
been drilling and constructing ground water monitor wells on private property
adjacent to LLNL Site 300. These monitor wells are being installed to identify the
extent of trichloroethylene (TCE) in the shallow water-bearing zone. Our
investigation is being conducted with the guidance and oversight of the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board.
We anticipate that over the next few months we will have a need to install
additional monitor wells on private property adjacent to Site 300. To expedite the
well permit application process, I would like to present to you here the
information that you will require to process the application permits for each of
these anticipated wells. Then, at the time we have identified the specific location
of each of our proposed monitor wells, we will send to you a completed Application
for Permit along with the permit application fee. In that manner we hope to
make your job of reviewing these permit applications easier.
The monitor wells that we anticipate drilling will be located in Sections 25,
26, 35, and 36, Township 3 South, Range 4 East on property owned either by the
Connolly Ranch, Inc., whose address is P. 0. Box 811, Tracy, California 95378,
or by E. & J. Gallo Winery, whose address is P. 0. Box 1130, Modesto, California
95353. Our investigation of TCE in ground water on these properties is being
conducted with the full agreement and consent of the property owners. The wells
will be drilled by P. C. Exploration, whose address is 1780 Vernon Street, Suite #3,
Roseville, California 95678.
Geologic logging of the boreholes will be done by an independent geologist
under contract from Weiss Associates. The wells will be constructed using the
same well construction techniques that we have used in the past and that you
An Equal opportunity Employer•University of califomia•PO.Box 808 Livermore,Califomia 94550•Telephone(415)422-1100•Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL LVMR
