■ Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
June 20, 1989 . '3
JUN 2 9 1989
ENVI[p! ENTAL HEATH
PERIUfT/SERVt HSE
Darlene Reuss
San Joaquin County Local Health District
P. O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Construction permits for monitor wells adjacent to LLNL Site 300
Dear Ms. Reuss:
As you know,Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has recently
constructed six ground water monitor wells on private property adjacent to LLNL Site 300 for
which we inadvertently failed to request well construction permits from San Joaquin County.
Since 1982 LLNL has constructed about 250 ground water monitoring wells at Site 300, all of
which were constructed using standard well construction techniques that are designed to prevent
potential contamination of ground water by surface water. The six off-site wells for which we
do not have permits were also constructed with the same well construction techniques that serve
to protect the quality of ground water monitored by each well. We are sending you well
construction permit applications for the six wells, the permit application fee of$210.00, and our
geologic logs for each well which show all pertinent information relative to their construction.
In addition, we have enclosed a map showing the location of the wells.
Wells W-25N-05, -06, -07 are located in Section 25, Township 3 south, Range 4 east on
property owned by the Connolly Ranch, Inc., whose address is P. O. Box 811, Tracy, CA
95378. Wells W-35A-01, -02, -03 are in Section 35, Township 2 south, Range 4 east on
property owned by E & J Gallo Winery. Their address is P. O. Box 1130, Modesto, CA
95353. The wells were drilled by P. C. Exploration whose address is 1780 Vernon St.,
Roseville, CA 95678.
On the attached well logs you will find the pertinent information you will need to be
assured that the wells were constructed in an appropriate manner. The following information is
included for each well:
-Well number -Depth and diameter of slotted casing
-Driller and drilling firm -Sand pack size and depth
-Date drilled -Depth and thickness of bentonite seal
-Person doing the geologic logging -Depth of annular cement grout surface seal
-Drilling method -Depth and thickness of bottom seal
-Borehole lithology -Diameter of borehole
-Analytical results of soil sampling -Total depth of the well
-Elevation of shiner and top of casing
-Depth and diameter of solid casing
An Equal opportunity Employer•Universityof Califomia-P0 Box 808 Livermore,California 94550•Telephone(415)422-1100•Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL LVMR
