Draft Final Site-Wide ROD 1 - 3 - • 17 June 2008
Lawrence Livermore National aboratory Site 300
U.S. Department of Energy
San Joaquin County
8. Table 2.4-1, Overall site cleanup plan for LLNL Site 300. On Page 1 of 4, in the section
on the Building 834 Area, DOE lists nitrate as being extracted and treated in the column
"Responses proposed in this Site-Wide ROD". DOE should change the table to state that
nitrate-bearing effluent from the treatment system is discharged via misting towers. In the
section on the Pit 6 Landfill, DOE needs to include monitoring for the groundwater CDCs
nitrate and perchlorate in the "Responses proposed in this Site-Wide ROD" column. On
Page 2 of 4, in the Building 850 Firing Table section, add the PCB and dioxin/furan soil
remediation to the column "Past and ongoing responses". In the Pit 7 Complex section,
the drainage diversion system should be added to the column "Responses proposed in this
Site-Wide ROD".
9. Table 2.13-1, ARARs for Site 300 selected remedies. In all descriptions of the Basin
Plan the first sentence states "Requires that ground waters not contain chemical
constituents in concentrations that exceed beneficial uses." Please change the sentence
to "Requires that ground waters not contain chemical constituents in concentrations that
adversely affect beneficial uses." for all "Description" columns for the Basin Plan, found on
pages 5, 7, 8 and 10 of 15.
10.Table 2.13-1, Page 11 of 15. The table references CCR, Title 27, Section 21090 (c) (1).
Change the reference to CCR, Title 27, Section 21090 (c) (1) (3) (4) (5).
11.Page 13 of 15, Disposition of Hazardous Waste. This page references Title 27 and
states that it regulates hazardous wastes that are discharged to land. Change the
reference to Title 23, Division 3, Chapter 15. The regulations in Chapter 15 pertain to
discharges of hazardous waste to land.
If you have any questions, you may contact me at (916) 464-4657.
SUSAN TIMM
Remedial Project Manager
cc.
