GEOMATRIX
Ms. Katie Hower
Chevron Pipe Line Company
3 December 1997
Page 2
Following soil sampling,one-inch-diameter PVC casings with 10 feet of slotted well
screen with 0.01-inch slot size were installed in the borings. When sufficient groundwater
had accumulated in the borings, Geomatrix collected one groundwater sample from each
boring by lowering a new polyethylene bailer into each boring. Following sample
collection, the borings were backfilled with cement grout under the observation of Mr.
Infurna.
The samples were submitted to Friedman and Bruya of Seattle, Washington, a state-of-
California certified analytical laboratory, under Geomatrix chain-of-custody procedures.
The soil samples were submitted for analyses for total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)as
crude oil(C8 to C36carbon range)by EPA Method 8015;for polynuclear aromatic
hydrocarbons(PAHs)by EPA Method 8270 SIM;and for benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,
and xylenes(BTEX)by EPA Method 8260. The groundwater samples were submitted for
analyses for TPH as gasoline and TPH as diesel by EPA Method 8015M; for PAHs by
EPA Method 8270 SIM;and for BTEX and methyl tert butyl ether(MTBE)by EPA
Method 8260.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
No TPH as crude oil,PAHs,or BTEX were detected in the three soil samples analyzed.
No TPH as gasoline,TPH as diesel,PAHs,BTEX,or MTBE were detected in the
groundwater samples. Analytical laboratory reports and chain-of-custody records are
presented in Attachment 2 for both soil and groundwater samples.
We appreciate the opportunity to provide CPL with our professional environmental
consulting services.
Sincerely,
GEOMATRIX CONSULTANTS, INC.
Michael R.
