KLEINFELDER
' TPH-P, TPH-D, Toluene (T) and Xylenes (X) were detected in one of these four initial samples
(Sample No. 21987) collected at a depth of about 1 foot bgs. T and X were also detected from
' one of these initial soil samples collected at a depth of 4.5 feet bgs. TPH-P, TPH-D, and BTEX
constituents were not detected from the two samples collected at deeper depths of approximately
' 7 and 9 feet bgs. The highest concentration of oil and grease (948 mg/kg) from this initial
sampling was detected at a depth of about 7 feet bgs (Sample No. 21977).
Fourteen (14) subsequent sidewall samples were collected between June 27 and July 3, 2001
' during and after excavation. These samples were analyzed for the following analyses: .
• Oil&Grease by Method SM 5520E
' • Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons [TPH-P] by EPA Method 8015M
o Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene,Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method 8020M
Two (2) of these 14 samples (Sample No 23707 and 23710) with the highest reported oil and
' grease concentrations were also analyzed for:
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Diesel[TPH-D] and oil (TPH-O]
' by EPA Method SW8015B/DHS LUFT Manual.
TPH-P and BTEX constituents were not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits for 13 of
' these 14 confirmation sidewall soil samples. TPH-P, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in
one of these 11 confirmation samples (Sample No. 24111). TPH-P was detected at 230 mg/kg,
' ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected at 1,500 and 3,120 µg/kg, respectively. This sample was
collected from soils that have been excavated and stockpiled next to LE-C. The sample was
analyzed to compare field observations with analytical data to better assess the soils.
' Oil and Grease (O&G) was found in 5 of these 14 confirmation samples at concentrations
ranging from 104 to 1,290 mg/kg. The highest concentrations were found in the eastern and
' southeastern sidewall samples at concentrations of 1,290 and 1,170 mg/kg, respectively. The
samples were not discolored or noted with a petroleum odor. These two samples were
additionally analyzed for TPH-D and TPH-O. The eastern sidewall sample with the highest
' O&G concentration had a concentration of TPH-D of 1.1 mg/kg. TPH-D and TPH-O was
otherwise not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits for these two soil samples
exhibiting the highest concentrations of O&G.
t
20-4341-11101/20118959 Page 20 of 31
Copyright 2001,Kleinfelder,Inc.
