A second excavation is currently being excavated east by northeast of the aforementioned smaller
excavation. This excavation based on Figure 2 of Geologic Technic's groundwater assessment
report appears to be located beneath and in the vicinity of a former maintenance shop of the
former R&B Trucking Company. As of the end of June 2001 this second excavation measures
approximately 90 by 75 by 8-feet deep. Based upon the current excavation and pot-holing at the
site it does not appear that the contaminated soil has migrated off-site.
Current field observations seem to indicate that the majority of contaminated soil has been
removed in the easterly and westerly directions. Excavation to the north has not been possible
due to a large windrow of soil generated during grading operations at the site. Pot-holing north
within this windrow, however indicated that discolored soils did not extend north of this
windrow. Pot-holing to the south indicated contaminated soil did not extent further than about
120 north of the southern property boundary.
Groundwater was noted in the bottom of the second excavation near the northern excavation
boundary. No sheen or odor was noted from this groundwater. Based upon the aforementioned
background information Kleinfelder is proposing the installation of four temporary monitoring
wells as detailed below:
PROPOSED SERVICES
This proposal details the scope of work for a Limited Groundwater Assessment of the property in
the vicinity of a former maintenance building of the previous R&B Trucking facility. Please note
that the intent of this Limited Groundwater Assessment is to ascertain the direction of
groundwater flow, the groundwater gradient, and the approximate extent of groundwater
contamination on a one-time bases. If contaminants are found additional assessments and
installation of permanent wells may be necessary.
Task E01 - Permitting and Pre-Field Activities
Based on the verbal approval of the client, this scope of work (less the cost estimate and contract)
will be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) for approval. Kleinfelder will obtain boring/well permits from the
PHS/EHD. Said permits must be approved prior to initiating our field activities.
Task E02—Temporary Monitoring Well Installation and Soil Sampling
Four (4) soil borings will be advanced to a maximum depth of approximately 20 feet below
ground surface (bgs). The four borings will be drilled approximately 10 feet into groundwater.
Temporary monitoring wells will be constructed in each boring. Based on the Geologic Technic
Inc. reports of the subject site in 1990 the groundwater gradient varied from west-northwest to
northeast. Based on this data two upgradient wells will be installed south of the existing larger
excavation, and two down-gradient temporary wells will be installed north of the excavation (See
Plate 1).
20-YP 1-628/2011 P 180 Page A-6
0 2001,Kleinfelder,Inc.
