Stockpile SS-8 had
a concentration of 3600 mg/Kg of diesel and 64 mg/Kg of gasoline in it when sampled in
March of 1998 and is pending treatment or disposal with BP.
With the exception of stockpile SS-8 the concentrations of contaminants as diesel are at
an average of less that 500 mg/Kg. Chem Away would like to have SEMCO remove 2
inches of topsoil from the remaining 10 acres of land at this site and use it to backfill the
balance of the excavation. With the use of a Caterpillar Paddle-Wheel Scraper
approximately 2700 cubic yards would be removed and used as backfill. The diesel
contaminated stockpiled soil, with the exception of SS-8, would be placed in a 2-inch lift
over the acreage to replace the topsoil. SS-8 could be used as a final layer if approved by
your agency other is6-its be haVed to Forward Landfill.
Chem Away would contract directly with SEMCO for this work unless a third party, such
as us, is required to document.the activities.
Please consider this proposal as an alternative to landfill disposal and notify the property
owners of your decision. They would like to commence with the work by March 8, 1999.
Sincerely,
Michael I Kloberdanz, REHS
M.J. Klobe;d&nz&Associates
M. Chem Away
