U9 KLEINFELDER
4 3 1 Soil Sampling
From the requested suite of analyses two analytes were detected in soil samples in the Franklin
' area Total lead was detected in each of the nine soil samples at concentrations ranging form 3 7
to 9 1 mg/kg Total xylenes were detected in a single soil sample (GP2 @ 9 feet) at a
concentration of 8 9 µg/kg
' The upper limit of the range of concentrations for total lead detected did not exceed the Total
Threshold Limit Concentration (TTLC) Regulated Level (1,000 mg/kg) for classification of the
' metals as a hazardous waste per California Code of Regulations 22CCR §6626124
Additionally these concentrations were not greater than 10-times the Soluble Threshold Limit
Concentration (STLC) Regulated Level (50 mg/kg) for total lead as expressed in 22CCR
§6626124 The factor of 10-times the STLC Regulated Level is commonly used as an indicator
as to whether or not a STLC analysis Is appropriate to be ran on the sample
' The upper limit of the total lead concentrations reported at the site (9 1 mg/kg) and the total
xylenes concentration detected in single soil sample (8 9 mg/kg) were found to be well below the
residential PRG levels for these two compounds The Residential PRG for total lead and total
' xylenes are 400 mg/kg and 270 mg/kg, respectively
4 3 2 Groundwater Sampling
Ten analytes or compounds were p e detected in groundwater from the requested suite of analyses as
listed in Section 3 3 and 3 4 These analytes were compared to State and Federal Primary
Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLS) and to acceptance criteria as presented by the City of
Stockton for discharge to the sanitary sewer system as applicable to the specific analytes
' The primary constituents of, concern appear to be volatile organic compounds including
oxygenates from the EPA 8260 suite of analyses Eight of the 10 analytes were detected from
the 8260 suite, the remaining two include total purgeable petroleum hydrocarbons as reference to
gasoline (TPH-G) and total lead TPH-g was detected in six groundwater samples at
concentrations ranging from 0 058 to 0 58 mg/l There is no MCLs set for this compound The
' City of Stockton discharge limit is 100 mg/l for "total petroleum hydrocarbons" Total lead was
detected in seven groundwater samples ranging in concentrations from 0 014 to 2 1 mg/l Total
lead in six of these samples exceeded the State and Federal Primary MCL of 0 015mg/1 One of
the groundwater samples (GP4) exceeded the City's limit of 2 0 mg
I
From the eight analytes detected from the 8260 suite, six analytes (MTBE, TBA, Trans-1,2-
' DCE, Cis-1,2-DCE, TCE and PCE) were found to exceed ether state and federal MCLs or the
City's limits The exceptions were total xylenes and chloroform MTBE was detected in six
groundwater samples at concentrations ranging from 0 59 to 62 µg11 All of these concentrations
exceeded the City's limitation of<0 5 µg/1 MTBE in two of the six groundwater samples (DW-
1
' 28699 E01 /ST03R759 Page I 1 of 17
Copyright 2003,Kleinfelder, Inc May 20,2003
