k9 kLEINFELDER <br /> • Preparation of this report which includes <br /> >- A description of the proposed pioject, <br /> 5 A description of the field and laboratory=investigations, <br /> } A description of the surface and subsurface conditions encountered during <br /> our field investigation <br /> >- Conclusions and recommendations related to the Geotechnical aspects of <br /> -- Temporary excavations, trench backfill, and compaction <br /> criteria, <br /> — Construction dewatering, <br /> Manhole foundations, <br /> — Lateral earth pressures, <br /> — <br /> Pipe jacking and/or boring, <br /> Asphalt concrete pavements, and <br /> — Soil corrosion <br /> >- An appendix that includes logs of borings and a summary of laboratory tests <br /> • 3 FIELD .4ND LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS <br /> 3.1 Field Investigation <br /> The subsurface conditions at the site were explored on March 18 and 19, 2002, by dnlling six <br /> borings to depths ranging from about 25 to 31% feet below existing grade The bonngs were <br /> cirilled using a Simco 2400 truck-mounted drill ng equipped with four-inch O D solid-stem <br /> auger The approximate boring locations are presented on Plate I <br /> During the drilling operations, penetration tests were performed in accordance with ASTM <br /> D1586 at regular intervals using a Modified California Sampler to evaluate the relative density <br /> of coarse-grained (cohesionless) soil and to retain soil samples for laboratory testing The <br /> penetration tests were performed by initially dri-�Ting the sampler 6 inches into the bottom of the <br /> bore hole using a 140 pound trip-hammer falling 30 inches to penetrate loose soil cuttings and <br /> "seat" the sampler Thereafter the sampler was progressively driven an additional 12 inches <br /> with the results recoided as the corresponding number of blows required to advance the <br /> sampler 12 inches, or any part thereof A pocket penetrometer was used to evaluate the <br /> consistency of fine-grained (cohesive) soil samples retained In the absence of pocket <br /> penetrometer test results, the consistency of fine-grained soils was estimated from penetration <br /> tests A representative with our firm maintained a log of the borings and �isually classified <br /> soils encountered according to the Unified Soil Classification System (see Plate _-�-t of the � <br /> • appenam ,) Soil samples obtained Tom the borings were packaged and sealed in the tiela to <br /> 1-1629 GOD2002R369 <br /> (f) '_003 'ilemielaer inc <br /> -�rml 19 2002 <br /> Page 'of-6 <br />
