corresponding TPH-g concentrations This may be because of the age of the release, i.e.,
the BTEX constituents have vaporized and/or been biodegraded Significant hydrocarbon
concentrations 'were not detected in the soil samples collected from Borings B-4
through B-8
Hydrocarbon concentrations were detected by the TPH-d analysis in a number of samples,
however, it is noted that there is some 'overlap" between the gasoline and diesel
hydrocarbon ranges detected by the two methods of analyses Most of the hydrocarbon
concentrations reported in the TPH-d range appear to be attributable to gasoline-range
hydrocarbons TRPH was not detected in the 11- and 16-foot samples collected from
Boring B-3, which was drilled at the suspected former location of a waste oil tank
6 3 GROUND WATER QUALITY
Ground water samples were collected from Borings B-2, B-3, and B-6 and analyzed for
TPH-g, BTEX, and TPH-d. The results of these analyses, summarized in Table 2, show that
elevated TPH-g and BTEX concentrations were detected in all three ground water samples
Dissolved TPH-g concentrations ranged from 35 to 150 mg/e . Dissolved benzene
concentrations ranged from 0.97 to 13 mg/e The highest concentrations were detected in
the sample from Boring. B-2, located near the suspected former location of three gasoline
tanks Boring B-6 was believed to be located upgradient of the former underground tanks,
however, the relatively flat gradient (0 002 at the nearby BP station) and the proximity of
Boring B-6 to the former tanks suggest that the hydrocarbons detected in the sample may
be attributable to lateral spreading from the suspected source area near Borings B-1
and B-2 Detectable concentrations of hydrocarbons were reported in the TPH-d range,
however, as with the soil samples, this apparently is the result of overlap between the
gasoline and diesel hydrocarbon ranges The decontamination rinsate sample contained low
concentrations of TPH-g (0170 mg/P_) and toluene (0 003 mg/e)
6-2
GE r' f Y4JTEMi
Consultants, Inc
