Analysis of soil samples collected fallowing excavation of seven USTs, associated piping and
dispenser islands, in early 1991, revealed the presence or petroleum hydrocarbons(see
Appendix H for pre-tank removal site diagramf,). All six samples collected frorn .he fuel tank _
_ excavation revealed petroleum hydrocarbons, with the greatest concentrations (maximum 3500
Ppm) encountered in the south wall samples. Only one sample collected from the southeast
corner of the used oil tank excava:ion revealed the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons.
Samples collected beneath the fuel tank dispenser piping revealed the presence of
hydrocarbons, with the greatest concentrations (maximum 677 ppm)encountered near the
T southern most dispenser island. Analytical results of excava!ion samples are listed in tabular
form in Appendix I.
Analysis of soil samples collected during the installation of wells MW-5, MW-6,MW-7,
VW-1 and VW-2 revealed the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the samples collected
from wells VW-2 and MW-7 only. These are located downgradient of the southern most fuel
dispenser and downgradient of the former fuel tank field, respectively. VW-2 had TPH as
gas to,50 ppm and MW-7 had only benzene. Analytical results are listed in Table 2 and
depicted on Figure 4.
3.4 Groundwater Quality Data
Analysis of groundwater samples collected from wellsMW-I, MW-2,MW-3 and AIW-4.in
May 1990 revealed the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the samples from wells MW-1
and MW-3 only. These are located side gradient of the former fueldispenser islands and
downgradient of the former fuel tank field, respectively. Samples collected from wells
` MW-2
(upgradient) and MW-4 (downgradient of former used oil tank field)revealed no detectable
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons upon analysis.
Analysis of groundwater samples collected from wells MW-5, MW-6 and ?.BIW-7 in August
1951. revealed the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the sample from well MW-7
(located downgradient of the former fuel tank field)only.
