split-spoon samplers designed to hold 2" diameter metal sample
tubes. While one core barrel was in use, the other was
' thoroughly cleaned with TSP & water, filled with new metal tubes
& set aside pending use.
'
Operations began at 0835; surface material consisted of road base
& gravel, grading to brown clay loam. At a depth of 5' , the
drill plug was retrieved, a clean core barrel was inserted into
' the flights, and driven from 5' to 616" . The core barrel was
removed and laid on a clean surface for examination by the
geologist. The barrel was carefully opened; recovery' was
recorded, and the contents described in detail. A full tube of
' cored material was quickly examined & promptly covered with
teflon tape & plastic caps; the ends were sealed with duct tape,
the tube identified & placed on ice in a sealed chest for
' preservation.
Drilling continued to 30' , at which depth another core was taken;
it was handled in the same manner as above. Additional cores
' were taken at 15-16' 6" , 20' -21' 6", & 21' 6"-23..0" . The augers
were advanced. to 32' , appronimatelp 10' below the mater table.
Refer to PLAM V111 for details of blowy counts, core recovery,
description of litholLogy, and other details. `Where was no
evidence of contamination in drill cuttings, cored material, or
groundwater.
' Drill cuttings and unused core material were Placed in metal
drums, tightly sealed, labeled, & stored on site pending results
of laboratory analysis.
' At the completion of auger.ing operations, 2" SCD. 40, flush
screw-joint blank & shop perforated PVC was run in the hole to
' 32' and gravel packed & sealed as shown on PLATF 1X.
Cementing of the annular space above the bentonite sear was
deferred pending completion of the other well. The casing top
' & annulus were thoroughly covered.
I
A smaller auger rig capable of advancing flights with the mast
laid down was mobilized over the location for well #4. It was
equipped with clean 8 1/4" flights, which used the same core
barrel assembly uhilised fox wall 45. However, instead of being
pounded into the soil with a drive hammer, the coring assembly is
' pushed into the ground with a hydraulic piston. Blow counts
cannot be obtained with this type of equipment-
Operations began at 1035 as directed by the RG. Cores were taken
from 51 -61,611 , 1011-1116", 151 -1616" , & 20121' 6" ; they were
described, handled & preserved by the same WJH field procedures
used for well 05. The well was advanced to 33' , preparatory to
completing. Drill cuttings & unused core material was placed in
1 5
