2 The levels of TPH-G have remained low and fairly constant in
all of the wells , which would not be unexpected from a site which
has been inactive for many years However, those levels are not
consistent with the very high levels of BTEX encountered
3 The highest levels of comtaminants have been measured in
monitoring well #1 , which is the farthest from the site of the
removed tanks , and has been in a down-gradient position only
during the last two sampling events As can be seen when com-
paring the lab results on TABLE I with the measured gradients on
F-LAU I , there is no direct correlation between the two sets of
data
4 Monitoring well #3 , although closest to the removed UST' s ,
and never in a down-gradient position, has revealed significant
levels of BTEX each time it was sampled, again, there is no
apparent correlation between the levels measured and the indi-
cated groundwater gradient
5 Monitoring well #2 has consistently recorded the lowest
levels of all components It was in a down-gradient
ro
during the April & July samplings , but not in Novembeortian
January Although there is no obvious correlation between
amounts of contamination measured & the gradient direction, the
highest levels detected were in July, when the well was directly
down-gradient
CONCLUSIONS
Based on data obtained to date, the following conclusions appear
justified,
1 The evidence for an offsite source of contamination discussed
in prior reports is still indicated by the latest data, although
it' s location is not as easily defined The soil-vapor survey
which is being conducted on the property may assist in identify-
ing the direction of that source
2 Laboratory analysis (EPA 501 , ) of water samples from the
latest test were below detection limits, which supports the
evidence for a gasoline derived source of the contamination
3 Soil remediation at this time is not justified until the
additional source, or sources , of contamination have been
identified, and the vertical and horizontal limits of the plume
have been fully defined
2
