•
levels, since there was no soil contamination indicated.
3. The levels of contamination measured in MTS #3 also increased
dramatically between April & July. Although this well is closet
to the removed UST' s, the hydraulic gradient as measured should
move any residual gasoline compounds away from the well, not
towards it.
4. The hydraulic gradients measured in April & July are in
close agreement with regional data, but additional monitoring
is needed in order to confirm that the gradient is fairly con-
stant.
CONCLUSIONS:
Based on data obtained to date, the following conclusions appear
justified;
I. The high levels of BTEX & gasoline measured in water samples
does not correlate with other available data, and an offsite
source of contamination to the west and/or northwest is strongly
® indicated.
2 Additional site assessment is not warranted at this time,
except for continuing quarterly groundwater monitoring.
3. Remediation of the soil & water on the property cannot be
justified until the source(s) of contamination can be located.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1 Continue quarterly monitoring for at least an additional 6
months, or until sufficient data is obtained to suggest the next
course of action.
2. The County EHD should make an intensive search of all avail-
ible records in an effort to locate the potential source or
sources of the contamination.
3. Based on the information obtained to date, a major source or
sources of the groundwater degradation appears to be from an off-
site location. Until such source(s) are identified, any program
to clean up the soil & groundwater beneath the site is not recom-
mended.
In correspondence dated August 12, 1993, the County EHD stated
that a workplan for soil remediation must be submitted by October
• 18. On August 17,, we requested an extension until February 18,
2
