I.0 INTRODUCTION
Kwikee Foods is a convenience store and former gasoline filling station located on Country Club
Boulevard in Stockton, California. The project site is located at 2081 Country Club Boulevard in
west-central Stockton. The location of the site is shown in Figure 1, and the site facilities are shown
in Figure 2. The property is owned by Mr. William Peters, and has been leased out for several years.
Investigation of subsurface petroleum contamination has been conducted by Upgradient
Environmental Consultants and supervised by the Local Oversight Program (LOP) of San Joaquin
County Department of Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD).
2.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The site is located in a residential/commercial area, and the local topography is flat. Following the
discovery of gasoline in groundwater beneath the site in 1990, the site was placed in the LOP
program of PHS/EHD and has been supervised since that time by Michael Infurna, REHS.
Upgradient Environmental Consultants began to assess the extent of soil and groundwater
contamination in 1994, and completed the assessment in the fourth quarter of 2000. The results
were,presented in a Problem Assessment Report(July 1, 2001).
A Chevron gasoline station was formerly Iocated across Franklin Street from the site. Assessment
of that site was begun in the early 1990's, and remediation began in the latter part of 2000. In the
recently completed Problem Assessment Report for Kwikee Foods, we used laboratory data from
the Chevron site to conclude that dissolved-phase hydrocarbons have migrated eastward from the
Chevron site down the prevailing hydraulic gradient, resulting in groundwater contamination
beneath Kwikee Foods. The report recommended that monitoring of the Kwikee Foods site
continue through the end of 2001 to confirm that groundwater quality is improving and that the
trend of declining contaminant concentrations does not reverse.
3.0 MONI'T'ORING PROCEDURES
Groundwater monitoring took place on November 20, 2001. GettIer-Ryan Inc. monitored the
neighboring Chevron site bn the same date and provided water-depth measurements to Upgradient
Environmental, and Morrow Surveying re-surveyed both the Chevron and Kwikee Foods wells on
the same date. The Chevron data have been incorporated into this report.
r
After the wells were opened and allowed to equalize with. atmosphefic pressure, the depth to
groundwater was measured with a water level meter and recorded on the Well Monitor Report
(Appendix A). A battery-operated purge pump was then used to purge the wells of standing water.
Ten to 15 gallons of water were purged from each well and stored in 55-gallon drums on site.
3
