5.0 FURTHER ASSESSMENT
Additional assessment of the extent of groundwater contamination is being planned. Property
owners along Country Club Boulevard have been contacted to obtain access for further drilling, and
two owners have agreed to allow drilling on their properties. Upgradient is currently in the process
of preparing permits to drill on these properties and in the public sidewalk. When encroachment
permits from the County have been approved, they will be forwarded to EHD for final approval.
Drilling is anticipated to take place in mid-December, in conjunction with fourth quarter
groundwater monitoring.
6.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The main conclusion to be drawn from third-quarter monitoring data is that the direction of
groundwater flow varies widely at this site in response to unknown controls. Because of the
fluctuation in flow direction, the geometry of the groundwater plume is difficult to predict at this
stage of the investigation. We recommend better coordination with the consultant that is :monitoring
the wells at the former Chevron site on the west side of Franklin Street in order to develop a clearer
picture of the groundwater gradient and contaminant plume.
•
4
