15 January 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0669
3.0. FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of California
Professional Geologist. Procedures for well installation, well completion, well development, soil
sampling and ground water sampling are included below.
3.1. WELL DRILLING AND SAMPLING
The proposed ground water monitoring wells(MW-12 through MW-24)will be advanced utilizing
a truck-mounted or LAR, hollow stem drill rig equipped with 8.25-inch diameter hollow-stem
augers. Cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling will be containerized in properly labeled
Department of Transportation(DOT)-approved model 17H 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in
an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on results of soil and
water analysis.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals from the wells installed within HU4,beginning
at a depth of 5 feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves. The sampler will
be driven by dropping a 140-pound weight from a height of 30 inches (blow counts). The blow
counts will be recorded on boring logs. Upon soil sample retrieval, a selected brass sleeve will be
removed from the sampler. The ends of the brass sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon
sheets, sealed with plastic end caps, secured with tape and immediately placed in a chilled container
for transportation to a DHS-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with boring
location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Sample duplicates will be monitored for the presence of organic vapor using a photo-ionization
detector (PID: Thermo Environmental 580, 10.0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) and described on
boring logs using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution ofAlconox. All hollow stem augers will be steam-cleaned prior
to advancement in each borehole.
3.1.1. Well Completion
Following drilling for each of the proposed single-completion well pilot borings, 2-inch diameter
schedule 40 PVC 0.020-inch perforated well screen and blank well casing will be installed at each
location. A 10-foot section of well screen will be installed between 40 feet and 50 feet in wells
installed within HU2;a 10-foot section of well screen will be installed between 70 feet and 80 feet
Advance!GmEnvirenmental,Inc.
