05 October 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0398
Copies of the well driller's reports are included as Appendix A.
A review of files on record with the San Joaquin County Environmental Health did not located any
septic pits or septic systems located on the site or adjacent properties.
SITE CLOSURE REQUEST
The responsible party (RP) for this site is Mr. Tom Daniels, who is seeking a closure for this site.
The San Joaquin County PHS-EHD has indicated a willingness to consider granting closure for this
site and has requested AGE to provide a request in writing for closure. The following discussion
presents the site circumstances that should be weighed while considering site closure.
On 06 March 1998, three soil borings (P-1, P-2 and P-3) were advanced at the site to maximum
depths of 25 feet bsg(Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation Report, dated 12 June 1998). A total
of four soil samples were submitted for laboratory analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX compounds);
methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE),
tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and tert-butanol (TBA). TPH-g was detected at a concentration of
24 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in a soil sample collected from P1 at a depth of 12 feet bsg.
BTEX compounds were detected at concentrations ranging as high as 0.0067 mg/kg in a soil sample
collected from P1 at a depth of 15 feet bsg; MTBE was not detected in any of the analyzed soil
samples. The results of the analysis did not detect any MTBE, DIPS, TAME, ETBE or TBA above
laboratory reporting limits.
One grab ground water sample was collected from P-1 and submitted for laboratory analysis. TPH-g
was detected at a concentration of 1,700 micrograms per liter (4g/1); ethylbenzene and xylene were
detected at concentrations of 48 g/l and 50 4g/1, respectively. Benzene, toluene, MTBE, DIPE,
TAME, ETBE and TBA were not detected above the laboratory reporting limits.
The vertical extent of impacted soil at the site was delineated in boring P-1 to depths less than 20
feet bsg; the lateral extent of the TPH-g impacted soil has not been fully determined. The results of
the soil sample analysis are presented and discussed in more detail in Preliminary Investigation and
Evaluation Report, dated 12 June 1998 and prepared by AGE.
Ground water was encountered on the site at approximately 12 feet bsg; the flow direction is
generally toward the northeast in this portion of Stockton. The lateral extent of impacted ground
water has not been fully determined, but only minimal BTEX compounds-impact (ethylbenzene
equal to 48 4g/l and xylenes equal to 50 ug/1) were encountered to ground water. There was no
Advanced CeoEnN ironmental,Inc.
