V
13 January 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0398
covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, plastic end caps and sealed with
tape. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following information: soil probe boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials. If additional soil probe borings are needed to further assess
petroleum hydrocarbon-impact, then discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals
beginning at a depth of 5-feet bsg utilizing a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-
cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from soil probe borings utilizing a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly. For the sampling assembly, probe rods will be fitted with a retractable ground
water screen and advanced to the total depth of each probe boring; the rods will then be pulled
upward to allow ground water to flow into the screen. A bailer fitting will then be placed on the end
of 3/8-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, inserted through the rod assembly into the exposed screen,
through which water will be manually pumped.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All probe rods and sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and/or grab ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes:
BTE&X) and methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and
8020/602. At least one ground water sample will be analyzed for MTBE in accordance with EPA
method 8260 for confirmation purposes. Laboratory reports of both soil and ground water analyses,
testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)reports and sample chain-of-
custody documentation will be presented in a report with the findings and recommendations.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL PROBE BORINGS
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of probings:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 2-working days prior to commencement of any work.
2. Mark probing locations at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service Alert(USA)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
