13 January 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0398
check of underground utilities or pipes.
3. Advance each soil probing using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit (direct push
technology: DPT) equipped with 1.25-inch diameter rods. Each probing will be advanced to
a minimum depth of 20 feet bsg. Proposed soil probe boring locations are depicted on Figure
2.
4. Decontaminate sampling equipment in an Alconox solution and rinse with water prior to
each sampling run.
5. At least one soil probe boring near the former UST location will be continuously sampled
using a Geoprobe Macro-core sampler and 36-inch acetate sleeves.
6. If additional soil probe borings are needed, then soil samples will be collected at 5-foot
intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg. Samples will be collected using a Geoprobe soil sampling
assembly pre-loaded with four 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
7. Preserve soil samples in the second brass sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon sheets,
capping, and sealing with tape. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following
information: soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
8. Label and log samples on a chain-of-custody form.
9. Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a State-certified laboratory for analysis
of TPH-g,BTE&X and MTBE in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m and 8020/602.
10. Monitor soil sample duplicates for the presence of organic vapor using a photo-ionization
detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
11. Log soil sample duplicates in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
12. Backfill each probing to surface grade using Portland type II cement.
4.2. GROUND WATER SAMPLING
The following procedures will be performed for collection of grab ground water samples:
1. Collect a minimum of one grab ground water sample from all soil probe borings. Ground
water samples will be collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly. A ground water
sample will be collected at each sampling point in 40-m1 VOA vials containing hydrochloric
acid.
2. Transmit each ground water sample to a State-certified laboratory under chain-of-custody
procedure.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
