e nviros
identified the presence of Total purgable petroleum hydrocarbons quantitated as gasoline
(TPPH), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, chloromethane, 1,1-dichloroethane,
napthalene, styrene, and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and methanol in addition to the
previously detected MTBE. During this event,MTBE was detected at 8.3 ppb by EPA
Method 8020 and 2.8 ppb by EPA Method 8260 in the shallow sample. The sample
collected from the spigot contained benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes. A sample
of the oil was collected and has been submitted to the laboratory for characterization.
Results of sampling to date have been submitted to SJCPHS. A separate report will be
issued when all data are received.
Shell is investigating the possibility of installing a sample port directly downstream of the
well pump for future sample collection.
2472 Country Club - Foster
A right of entry document was sent on August 11, 1997. As requested in a discussion with
SJCPHS on September 2, 1997, another copy of this document was sent on September 4,
1997. Upon receipt of the signed document, sampling of the well will be scheduled.
Intersection of Country Club and Plymouth - Caltrans Well
Sampling of this well was originally scheduled to be done on September 3, 1997 in
conjunction with installation of the new shallow well within the Caltrans right of way.
However, that drilling was postponed to allow resolution of other site investigation issues.
The well was subsequently sampled on September 5, 1997, and results are pending.
Presently, no well completion data or boring logs for any of these domestic wells have
been located. Enviros will attempt to obtain these records from the State of California
Department of Water Resources. If they are not available, these data will be collected by
physically surveying the wells. Performing this physical survey is contingent upon each
property owner allowing access to his or her well for the survey.
Task Four - Wellhead and Surface Water Elevation Survey
Wellhead elevations for each of the newly installed wells, and the existing domestic wells,
will be surveyed by a State of California registered land surveyor.
Ground water elevation data from the domestic wells will be used along with data from
Shell's wells to evaluate ground water flow.
Surface water elevation data from Smiths Canal will also be collected.
96371 4
