Jeff Granberry
September 26, 1995 ( 9447-8620)
Wells MW-1 and RW-1 were decommissioned by pressure grouting the wells with neat
cement up to approximately 12 fbg Prior to grouting, the bottom of the wells were Knocked out
using the slide hammer on the drill rig After the grout was placed, the well casing was extracted
using the rig's winch The boring was covered and secured until the area was overexcavated
The well destruction permit is included in Appendix G
3.2 UST Removal Compliance Sampling
Following removal of the four USTs and overexcavation to limits proposed in the Soil
Management Plan, dated March 8, 1995, Fugro personnel collected 19 soil samples under the
direction of a SJCPHS/EHD representative The samples were collected at depths ranging from
11 5 to 19 fbg The excavation sample locations are shown on Figure 3 The laboratory reports
and chain of custody forms of soil samples collected from the former UST excavation are
included in Appendix C and are summarized in Table 5
Excavation of the new UST basin (Figure 3) began on May 8, 1995 During excavation,
PID readings of the soil removed suggested the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons Soil
samples were collected from the stockpile under the direction of a SJCPHS/EHD representative
On May 15 and 16, 1995, the product line trenches were overexcavated Fugro personnel
collected 17 soil samples under the direction of a SJCPHS/EHD representative: The excavation
sample locations are shown on Figure 3 The laboratory reports and chain of custody forms of
soil samples collected from the former product line trench excavation are included in Appendix
C and are summarized in Table 5
3.3 Hand Augered Boning
On June 7, 1995, Fugro hand angered one soil boring HA1 to 6 fbg This boring was
drilled at the approximate location of the product line excavation sample PE8-1 5 to determine
the vertical extent of indicated petroleum hydrocarbons in this location This boring was located,
advanced, and sampled under the direct supervision of Ms Meays of the SJCPHS/EHD No
boring log was prepared
3.4 Labointory Analysis
Selected soil samples collected during this investigation were delivered under chain-of-
custody to a state-certified laboratory The analyses performed and their practical quantification
limit (PQL) are as follows
Total petroleum hydrocarbons, as gasoline(TPH-G), by modified EPA Method 8015 [PQL
= 1 0 part per million (ppm)]
Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), by EPA Method 8020 (PQL
• = 0 005 ppm)
94478620 ARP 7-
