Mike Infuma [EH]
` From: Mike Infuma[EHJ
Sent: Thursday, September 15,2011 9:17 AM
To: 'Scott Bittinger'
Subject: RE: 2705 Country Club Boulevard
Scott,
thanks for clearing that up. NO need for access agreements for my work. Each entity is an
RP, and as such, access to the site is inferred.
your choice on Pressure Grouting (PG) or o/bore. it's a toss up for the most part when the
wells have been air-knifed first. Big expense and time to air knife and a big labor problem too
if you must manually remove the dirt for the mushroom cap. There are some local drillers that
have addressed this adequately with the EHD. They have a 20-24" solid core auger. after the
UNDISTURBED well is pressure grouted and has stabilized, they simply auger down 30" with
this large bit. they remove the bit then post hole/vac out the last six inch depth to 36" bgs
leaving the PVC casing exposed. then they top the bottom 18" with grout to form the
'mushroom' head and then cover it with any material the landowner wishes. Grout can also be
brought to the surface (or near) allowing for just a patch to match surrounding.
this process saves time and labor. but i understand large oil companies feel the need to clear
the hole first. their choice, not the EHDs.
even if the well has been air knifed, I strongly recommend they do it to dimensions that provide
the "12-inches larger than the original borehole" at that time. just be sure ALL work at the well
head on wells destined for PG is NOT to disturb/obstruct the casing. Before the well can be
pressure grouted it MUST be unobstructed and open to full depth of construction. if they block
the well, it MUST be o/bored.
but if they manage NOT to mess up the casing, then at PG time, after the grout stabilizes, the
sand can be removed and the original hardened grout and PVC casing must be cut off at 30"
bgs and grout added to overflow down the 6" and then fill the hole to at least 18" bgs with neat
grout.
your choice of PG or o/bore..just decide and let me know. no dif in permit fees, but chances
are I'll be sending out someone else from here to monitor/inspect the work...he/she must be
briefed and aware of the plan before it happens.
also, any PG that fails to accomplish the goal must be followed up with the o/bore....and don't
worry about the cross-contamination concern. THe drilling process is required to be
continuous and grouting will occur thru the augers as soon as TD + 1 foot is reached. An
acceptable condition even with conductor cased wells going thru drill out.
mike
From: Scott Bittinger[mailto:sbittinger@stratusinc.net]
Sent:Thursday, September 15, 20118:36 AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
9/15/2011
