rs
WORK PLAN
BASELINE SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
FUTURE SAFEWAY STORE #1769 GAS STATION SITE
2782 COUNTRY CLUB BLVD
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
September 26, 2000
1.0 SITE HISTORY
The site is located at 2782 Country Club Boulevard at Fontana Avenue in
Stockton, California (see attached figures). This site is reportedly undeveloped
and has been rough-graded in preparation for new commercial construction. A
residence previously occupied the site. Safeway Inc. intends to construct a new
Safeway store at this location equipped with a Safeway gas station. In order to
obtain a baseline evaluation of subsurface conditions prior to the installation and
operation of their underground fuel tanks, Safeway proposes to collect soil and
groundwater samples from the site (gas station pad area). No historical sources
for on-site contamination are known to exist. However, known petroleum
releases from off-site nearby gasoline stations to the north of the site have
impacted groundwater in the area. The regional groundwater flow direction is to
the southwest; however, the groundwater flow direction at the nearby gas station
release sites has been calculated to the northeast.
2.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
Safeway Inc. retained HSI GeoTrans to complete the subsurface baseline soil
and groundwater assessment at the above site. HSI GeoTrans proposes to
complete a total of four soil borings (SB-1 through SB-4) at the proposed gas
station pad (see attached figure). The borings will be drilled to a maximum depth
of 30 feet below ground surface (bgs) or first groundwater; whichever is
shallower. Depth to groundwater is anticipated within 15 feet bgs. Soil samples
will be collected at 5-foot intervals from each soil boring for field screening with
an organic vapor monitor(OVM) and potential laboratory analysis. Based on
field screening results, one soil sample from two of the four boring locations (total
of two soil samples)will be submitted for laboratory analyses. In addition, one
grab groundwater sample will be collected at each boring location (total of four
groundwater samples) and submitted for laboratory analyses.
