WORK PLAN
FUTURE SAFEWAY STORE, 2782 COUNTRY CLUB BLVD
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Page 2
Based on our knowledge of soil conditions at the site, a Geoprobe drill rig will be
used to complete the soil and groundwater sampling. Soil samples will be
collected using a piston core sampler equipped with a new acetate sample
sleeve. Each soil sample will be capped, labeled and placed on ice in a
thermally insulated chest pending laboratory analysis. Groundwater samples will
be collected using a new disposable polyethylene bailer. Temporary new PVC
well screen and casing will be inserted into each boring to facilitate the collection
of each groundwater sample. Each groundwater sample will be placed in
containers appropriate for the selected analyses, labeled and placed on ice in a
thermally insulated chest pending laboratory analysis.
Following completion of the sampling activities, each boring will be grouted to the
surface using neat cement. The grout will be allowed to "free fall" down hole, as
the borings will be less than 30 feet in depth. It is anticipated that no waste
materials will be generated during this investigation.
3.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The two soil samples and four groundwater samples will be analyzed for volatile
organic compounds (VOCs), including BTEX compounds and MTBE, using EPA
Method 8260 (low level detection limits) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)
using EPA Method 8015. The TPH analyses will be preceded by silica gel
cleanup to remove naturally occurring fats or lipids that may cause false positive
results. The samples will be analyzed using a one-week laboratory turnaround
time at CLS Laboratories of Rancho Cordova, California.
4.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
A health and safety plan has been prepared to address safety issues associated
with the proposed drilling at this site, as well as three other Safeway sites where
HIS GeoTrans will be performing similar work in other Counties. A copy of the
safety plan is attached.
5.0 REPORTING
A brief letter report summarizing the findings of the baseline sampling will be
prepared following completion of the field activities and receipt of the laboratory
analytical data sheets. The report will include a description of the field work, a
comparison of the analytical data to relevant regulatory criteria, and present our
conclusions and recommendations, if any. Tabulated data, a sample location
figure, and the laboratory data sheets will be included.
