I I September 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0369
sampler's initials.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from each soil probe boring utilizing a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly. For the sampling assembly, probe rods will be fitted with a retractable ground
water screen and advanced to the total depth of each probe boring; the rods will then be pulled
upward to allow ground water to flow into the screen. A bailer fitting will then be placed on the end
of 3/8-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, inserted through the rod assembly into the exposed screen,
through which water will be manually pumped.
32. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All probe rods and sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconos.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and/or grab ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d, respectively), volatile aromatics (benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTE&X), methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE), Methanol, Ethanol,
Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (TBA), Di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (ETBE) and
Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether(TAME) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m, 8020/602 and 8260.
Laboratory reports of both soil and ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports and sample chain-of-custody documentation will he
presented in a report with the findings and recommendations.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL PROBE BORINGS
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of probiilgs:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 2-working days prior to commencement of any work.
2. Mark probing locations at least 48 hours in advance for an Under, round Service Alert (USA)
check of underground utilities or pipes.
3. Advance each soil probing using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit (direct push
technology: DPT) equipped with 1.25-inch diameter rods. Each probing will be advanced to
a minimum depth of 20-feet bsg. Proposed soil probe boring locations are depicted on Figure
Advanced GcoErcmironmental,Lic.
