15 September 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0369
Page 4 of 9
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. In addition, an update to
the health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety
and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to mobilization, each monitoring well location will be clearly
marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to install three ground water monitoring wells at the site as part of site assessment
activities. Proposed well locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Based on soil and ground water contamination encountered beneath the former UST area, AGE
proposes the installation of ground water monitoring wells in the following locations:
• Between 15 and 25 feet west of boring P-1 to assess the dissolved petroleu n hydrocarbon
plume up-gradient and/or cross-gradient of the former UST area;
• Between 15 and 25 feet northeast of boring P-1 to assess the dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon plume down-gradient of the former UST area;
• Between 15 and 25 feet southeast of boring P-1 to assess the dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon plume down-gradient and/or cross-gradient of the former UST area.
The proposed ground water monitoring well locations will be advanced to approximately 25 feet bsg
utilizing a truck-mounted, hollow stem drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers.
Total depths of borings may vary according to hydrooeologic/geologic conditions encountered
during drilling activities.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified/5030,-
0
odified/5030;• BTEX compounds and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method
8020; and
• Fuel oxygenated compounds including MTBE, TBA, DIPS, ethyl tertiary-butyl ether
(ETBE) and tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
Advanced GeoEncironmental,Inc.
