' Libbey Owens Ford Co.
Site Investigation
August 23, 1996
Page-3-
sample was retrieved and gently poured into a ]-liter, amber, glass sample container. The container
twas properly sealed and labeled (I.D. 41286-7125196-PIT), and placed into an ice chest chilled with ice
for delivery to GeoAnalytical Laboratories, of Modesto, California.
' 2.3 LaboratotT Analysis
sis
' The soil samples collected front the excavation were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020, and for total extractable petroleum
t hydrocarbons quantified as diesel, kerosene, and motor oil (TEPH) by Method 35501LUFT. Elevated
concentrations of TEPH-diesel and BTEX were detected in each soil sample. The diesel product
sample was analyzed for water content by Method D-174413 Karl Ficher. The results of the product
' analyses indicate a water content of 128 ppm. The analytical results are presented in Table 1 below.
The certificates of analyses and chain of custody are located in Appendix B of this report.
' TABLE 1
LABORATORY RESULTS
Soil Analyses Constituent B T E x TEPH
' Detection Limit 5.0 ;LWkg 5.0 gg/kg 5.0 µg/kg 5.0µg/kg 1.0-50 mg/kg
Sample J.D.
' 1286-TPI-5* 620 6,400 5,700 29,000 25.000
1286-TPI-8* 600 6.400 6,500 351000 332000
' 1286-TPI-1 1.5* 3,900 39,000 36,000 180.000 7,200
Product Analyses D-1744/3
Sample I.D.
