(Condor) for the above referenced site and requested a response by August 25, 2000. Your
comments specifically referenced the Report- Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring, Second Quarter—
May, 2000, dated June 29, 2000 (prepared by Condor) and a letter to you from Condor dated May 31,
2000. The May 31,2000 letter responded to your letter to Mr. Jon Weiss of PLOF containing five
previous comments regarding actions proposed by PLOF for the site. PLOF respectfully submits the
following responses to your most recent comments:
1. "The report shows that RW2 and RW3 had 2.48 feet and 0.05 foot of separate phase
product(SPP), respectively. However,it is not clear if PLOF placed a skimmer in RW2 as
proposed in the May letter. The report should clarify if PLOF has placed a skimmer in RW2.
Furthermore, since SPP is being detected in RW3,PLOF should consider using absorbent
materials such as to remove SPP which may not be amenable to removal by a skimmer".
A skimmer pump remains in RW2 and was not removed since its deployment in June 1999. The
skimmer pump was turned off on September 29, 1999 and remained off through July 5, 2000,
pending your response to the PLOF proposal contained in the above referenced letter(dated May 31,
2000)to conduct intermittent skimming. The skimmer was restarted on July 5, 2000 and operated
until July 7, 2000, in accordance with the proposal to conduct three days of skimming on a monthly
basis. On July 7, 2000, the skimmer was turned off after removing approximately 2.5 gallons of
diesel product and reducing the measured thickness of diesel from 2.39 feet to 0.02 foot. In addition,
the skimmer is scheduled for three days of operation beginning on August 22 and ending on August
24,2000. The skimming operations will be conducted concurrent with the third quarter, 2000,
quarterly groundwater monitoring at the site.
PLOF will place absorbent materials(absorbent"sock") in RW-3 to recover the thin layer of diesel
product observed at that location during last quarterly groundwater monitoring event. The absorbent
sock will be installed during the next quarterly monitoring event or the next site visit for the
skimming operations. The absorbent sock will be inspected during subsequent monthly site visits for
skimming operations and replaced as necessary.
ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING GEOTECHNICAL
http:/Avww.condorearth.com
