Libbev Owens Ford Co.
Product Rnao m Svnem InsWianon
lune 23, 1997
Page-7-
4.0 PROPOSED MONITOR WELL INSTALLATION
Condor proposes to install three (3) monitor wells at the site. Prior to-the monitor well
installation, monitor well drilling permits will be obtained from the PHS/EHD. Underground utilities
within the work area will be delineated by LOF personnel. The PHS/EHD will be notified of the
fieldwork schedule at least 48 hours in advance.
4.1 Drilling Procedures
The monitor wells (WI, W2, and W3) will be drilled by Spectrum Exploration of Stockton,
California (C57 license 9512268). A Condor geologist will be on site to supervise the drilling, soil
sampling, and well installation. The proposed monitor well locations are shown on Figure 6,
Appendix A. Prior to commencement of fieldwork, a tailgate safety meeting will be held and a site-
specific Health and Safety Plan will be discussed with, and presented to, all crew members for their
signatures. A copy of the Health and Safery Plan is contained in the Appendix of this document.
The monitor well boreholes will be drilled using 6-inch O.D., continuous-flight, hollow-stem
augers to a depth of approximately 20 feet below the ground surface (bgs). The depth to groundwater
at the site was approximately I1 feet bgs during the Geoprobe investigation in December, 1996. The
augers will be steam cleaned before each borehole is drilled. The soil sampling equipment (i.e., split-
spoon) will be cleaned prior to collecting each sample. The cleaning procedures will consist of
washing the sampling spoon in a solution of laboratory-grade, non-phosphate detergent and
hydrocarbon-free water, and double-rinsing with hydrocarbon-free water.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals using a California-modified, split-spoon
sampler fitted with three clean, brass liners. During the sampling, the split-spoon sampler will be
driven ahead of the auger. The uppermost liner will be discarded. One sample liner will be used for
geological logging and for field screening using an organic vapor analyzer (photoionization detector -
PID) and the bottommost liner will be prepared. as described below, for possible shipment to the
laboratory. The soil samples will be logged according to the Unified Soil Classification System.
Drilling logs will be prepared and will contain field observations including soil type, estimated
moisture content. presence of staining or odor, and field PID measurements.
L CONDOR
