10 July 2017 AdvancedGeo
AGE Proposal No. 16-7172 Environmental
Page 3 of 5 0..MIV.
Proposed soil borings will be advanced using a truck mounted AMS Powerprobe 9600 or
Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The
Powerprobe or other probe advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic hammer to
drive soil sampling tools to specified depths.
Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected at the surface (upper 12 inches of soil) and discreet two-
foot intervals beginning at six feet (6) feet bsg and 12 feet bsg. Soil is collected using a
1 .45 inch Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with a two-foot acetate liner. Upon
sample retrieval, a selected portion of the liner will be cut and covered with Teflon sheets,
capped and sealed with tape.
Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice
and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory. Each
sample sleeve will be labeled with boring designation, depth, time, date and sampler's
initials. Soils encountered in the borings will be visually classified by AGE personnel in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Additionally, soil samples
will be field-screened for presence of volatile organic compounds using OVM, equipped
with PID pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
Soil be analyzed for the following:
• Total oil and grease (O&G) by EPA 8015/1664
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA 8260
• pH and CAM 17 metals (Barium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium) analysis by
EPA 6010
• Trichloromethane (chloroform), Dibromochloromethane, Bromodichloromethane
and Tribromomethane (bromoform) By EPA 8010
• Total nitrogen (NO2+NO3 and TKN), Flouride EPA 300
• Sulfate, Calcium, Chloride, Alkalinity by EPA 300
• Total dissolved solids extracted by EPA 2540
• Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen by EPA 350.1 and 351.2
Soil samples with detections of metals, are to be compacted to the California Human
Health Screening Level concentrations and detected consistently at concentrations near
the background concentration established for the site by samples analyzed from borings.
Boring Abandonment
All soil borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential
contaminants. Soil borings shall be abandoned by backfilling with cement grout from the
total depth to surface grade. Borings advanced below the groundwater table will be
abandoned with grout utilizing tremmie procedures. The top three-feet of the soil boring
abandonments will be completed with native soils to surface grade with concrete.
