UST Removal Report 3
The Southland Corporation,Store 1{20632,4627 Davin Dr Stcs4n CA December 11,I999
' 4.2 Results of Soil Sample Analysis
Table 1 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for soil samples collected between October 19
and November 13, 1998 The highest benzene and MTBE concentrations were detected in sample T2-
S@8'at 4 3 mg/kg and 26 mg/kg, respectively The highest TPH-G concentration was also detected in
sample T2-84M8'at 2,100 mg/kg The highest total lead concentration was detected in sample L-2-30
at 13 mglkg The sod sample analytical results indicate low to non-detectable concentrations of
benzene,MTBE and total lead, and low to moderately high concentrations of TPH-G beneath the UST
pd and dispenser island Copies of the analytical results and chain-of-custody documents are included
in appendix B
1
4.3 SOIL STOCKPILE SAMPLING AND ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Sod samples were taken from two soil stockpiles(SP-1 and SP-2) The analytical results are
summarized in Table 1, and copies of the analytical data are included in appendix B
On October 19, 1998 six soil samples were collected from the approximately 150 cubic yards of sod
generated during the initial excavation phase of the USTs and were analyzed for BTEX,MTBE, and
TPH-G following EPA methods 8020/8015 modified, and for the oxygenates MTBE,TBA, DIPS,
ETBE, and TAME following EPA methods 8260
All samples were collected in 6-4nch brass sleeves approximately 1 foot beneath the stockpile surface
at each sample location The sample tubes were sealed with Teflon pads, plastic caps and tape,
labeled, placed on ice in an insulated cooler, and transported under chain of custody manifest to state-
cerhfied Acculabs Inc , in Daws, California for analysis
No sod pile samples contained benzene concentration above detection limits The highest TPH-G and
' MTBE concentrations were detected in SP-C at 2,500 mg/kg and 7 4 mg/kg, respectively
4.4 WATER SAMPLING AND ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Table 2 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for water samples collected on October 21 and
22, 1998 The water sample from the UST pd excavation contained benzene,TPH-G, and MTBE
concentrations of 660 micrograms per[der(pg/L),62,000 pg/L, and 24,000 pg/L, respectively
The highest benzene,TPH-G,and MTBE from the baker tank samples was detected in sample BT-1 at
770 pg/L, 80,000 pg/L, and 30,000 pg/L, respectively
5.0 WASTE DISPOSAL AND BACKFILL
Approximately 967 tons of sod excavated from the UST pd,during tank removal and the overexcavation
of the pit during installation of the new USTs,was removed as hazardous waste from site by Belshire
' Environmental Services, Inc (Belshire)of Lake Forest, California for proper disposal At the same
time approximately 92,000-gallons of groundwater was pumped from the UST pd and removed as
hazardous waste from site by Belshire for proper disposal Waste documents were faxed to Mr
Michael Kith of the SJCPHS as completed by Belshire The tank excavation was backfilled with
imported fill material Maness backfilled the excavation and coordinated sod compaction
24632ust.ipt(SIh1)
rFLUOR DANIEL GTI
